“And for anybody who's ever deployed overseas, whether or not you're boots on ground or you're on a vessel, you're doing some pretty awesome stuff. So I just kind of thought to myself, ‘Man, this is probably my last time where I'm going to be part of something greater than myself.’”
This was Tyrone Hewitt’s thought as he embarked on his last deployment in the Navy.
Little did he know at the time, that he would be a part of an even greater mission, making a big impact on the lives of many other people…military and non-military alike.
In a recent interview with Tyrone Hewitt, KP of The Morning Formation Podcast, was able to sit down with the 20-year Navy Vet and gain valuable insight into Tyrone’s experience transitioning out of the military.
In the interview, Tyrone explains the helpful actions he took while he was enlisted, which made his transition into civilian life, a much smoother experience. For example, one of the things that helped him greatly was the fact he did volunteer work. This helped him to network with others. If you take a look at his LinkedIn profile, you will be impressed with the volunteer work he has done. Everything from providing services and supplies to homeless Veterans to being a mentor to children with incarcerated parents.
While Tyrone did make some very intelligent choices that helped him later on, he does admit that a certain conversation with a shift supervisor is what ultimately motivated him to focus seriously on his future.
“And I think, I'll be honest with you, I think if he didn't have that conversation with me, I may have spent three years kind of putting it on a back burner.”
Thankfully, Tyrone took that great advice and put it to use. This not only led him to have a positive experience transitioning out of the military, but it set things in motion for him to eventually become a transition and employment counselor to help other military men and women to have successful transitions to civilian life.
If you are currently enlisted in the military or even if you have already transitioned out and you need solid advice to help you have a successful future, make sure to listen to the full interview with Tyrone Hewitt.
